PET recycling – High-quality PET flakes and PET granules for bottle-to-bottle solutions
The Reling Group is one of Germany's leading specialists in the recycling of glass, plastic, wood and photovoltaic modules. At our two state-of-the-art PET recycling sites in Hamm-Uentrop and Burgbernheim, we produce high-quality PET flakes and PET granulates that are used in a wide range of applications, including the bottle-to-bottle process.
What does bottle-to-bottle mean?
In the bottle-to-bottle approach, used PET bottles are not only recycled, but directly reprocessed into new bottles, turning used materials into valuable resources again. This creates a cycle in which no downcycling takes place. The process begins with the collection of empty PET bottles from bottling companies, discounters and retailers. First, foreign matter and contaminants are sorted out and the bottles are separated by colour. They are then crushed and subjected to density separation to remove any remaining impurities. Any remaining contamination is reliably removed in a caustic soda hot washing plant. Finally, the material is dried and undergoes a final sorting process. The resulting product is high-quality PET flakes with the status "Ready for Decontamination Output" (RecyClass Module A1). Our recycled PET flakes are processed using innovative and highly specialised recycling technology from Next Generation Recyclingmaschinen GmbH (NGR) into high-quality PET granulate (RecyClass Module A2) for food contact materials in accordance with EFSA and FDA requirements. Our PET granulate can ultimately be used to manufacture new PET bottles that meet the same high quality standards as PET bottles made from freshly produced plastic.
Advantages of the bottle-to-bottle process
The bottle-to-bottle process conserves valuable resources, as PET is 100% recyclable. Used PET bottles do not end up in the rubbish, but are returned to the production cycle and sustainably recycled, maintaining a closed loop. At the same time, the process helps to reduce CO₂ emissions, thereby reducing the ecological footprint.
