From waste wood to a valuable secondary raw material
At Reiling, waste wood recycling means utilising wood sustainably and keeping it in the material cycle for as long as possible. Waste wood is far more than just waste: as a valuable secondary raw material, it can be reused and processed for various recycling routes. In this way, recycling helps to conserve natural resources and reuse existing raw materials. To ensure appropriate recycling, the waste wood delivered is first carefully inspected, sorted and processed. Depending on its condition and category, different recycling routes may be considered.
A basic distinction is made between material recycling and thermal recycling. Suitable recycled wood is processed into wood chips. These can then be used in the chipboard and furniture industries, amongst others. In this way, the processed wood becomes the raw material for new products once again and remains within the material cycle. Our G30 wood chips consist of 100 per cent untreated A-I recycled wood. No additional fresh timber is required for their production. Consequently, no trees need to be felled to produce the wood chips. The use of recycled timber allows existing raw materials to be reused and reduces the demand for newly harvested timber. Our customers in the chipboard industry are FSC- and PEFC-certified. Coated DecoBoards also carry the Blue Angel label.
Thermal recovery of waste wood
Wood that is contaminated or cannot be recycled as a material due to its nature can be used for thermal energy in accordance with legal requirements. In power stations and biomass combined heat and power plants, the processed waste wood serves as an energy source for generating electricity and heat. This means that even wood which can no longer be processed into new wood products is given a further useful purpose.
Sustainable waste wood recycling combines resource conservation with the circular economy. Wherever possible, the wood is recycled as a material and reused as a raw material. If material recycling is no longer practical or permissible, it can be thermally recycled in a professional manner. In this way, waste wood is utilised in the best possible way according to its quality: as a secondary raw material for new wood products or as an energy source for generating electricity and heat.
