PET in the loop
From PET bottles to food-grade rPET pellets
PET bottles form the basis of our PET recycling process. At our site in Hamm, we process PET bottles into high-quality rPET flakes, which are then further processed into food-grade rPET pellets. By using innovative technologies and strictly controlled production and quality processes, we ensure that our rPET pellets meet the highest standards and are ideally suited for further processing.
What are rPET pellets and how is it produced?
rPET pellets are made from recycled PET and are produced by further processing our rPET flakes. Using modern, highly specialised recycling technology from Next Generation Recyclingmaschinen GmbH (NGR), these flakes are processed into high-quality rPET pellets that are suitable for food contact applications and comply with the requirements of the EFSA and the FDA.
Unlike conventional recycling processes, the material is cleaned or decontaminated in the liquid phase. This allows impurities to be removed particularly effectively and ensures a high level of material purity.
Our rPET pellets are food-grade and are primarily used in products that come into direct contact with food. These include, for example, new PET bottles and other food packaging. By returning the recycled material to the recycling cycle, we are making an important contribution to conserving resources and promoting a sustainable circular economy.
The quality of our rPET pellets is continuously monitored and ensured through comprehensive testing procedures. Among other things, we check the pellet size, bulk density, residual moisture, dust content and intrinsic viscosity (iV). In addition, we test the L*a*b* colour values and volatile substances such as acetaldehyde and benzene. In this way, we ensure consistently high quality and optimal conditions for the further processing of our rPET pellets.
