A new lorry access road, an additional weighbridge and the relocation of the operations management office are improving logistics, road safety and sustainability at the Marienfeld site
Over the past 50 years, the Reiling Group has continuously expanded its recycling site in Marienfeld, extending it north-eastwards. As part of the latest developments, the lorry access road has been relocated from Bussemasstraße to Max-Planck-Straße, where an additional weighbridge has also been installed. Furthermore, the site management offices have moved to Max-Planck-Straße. The new facilities were celebrated on 29 May during an inauguration ceremony attended by staff and guests.
“Thanks to the construction of Max-Planck-Straße at the time, lorries now have to pass through the town centre much less frequently, which has helped to reduce traffic volumes there. The new lorry access road on Max-Planck-Straße will now also significantly ease the burden on Bussemasstraße,” explains Bernhard Reiling, Managing Director. “The new access road has the capacity to accommodate up to ten articulated lorries. Vehicles waiting to be weighed now have sufficient space on the site and no longer have to wait on public roads. This makes traffic in the vicinity of the site safer.” More than 100 weighings are carried out daily at the Marienfeld site. The relocation of delivery traffic will also reduce internal lorry traffic on the factory premises by around 25 to 30 per cent, which directly contributes to CO₂ savings. With the redevelopment, the company is also pursuing the goal of making internal logistics more efficient, faster and safer. As part of the redesign, the company also implemented voluntary greening measures. Four oak trees, each around four metres tall, and approximately 1,250 native hedge shrubs were planted on the existing embankment and in the area of the new access junction. The planting was carried out in addition to the compensation measures required by the authorities. “As a recycling company, plant and nature conservation are particularly close to our hearts,” emphasises Thomas Schürmann, Head of Construction.
The redevelopment work around Max-Planck-Straße dates back many years. Around 25 years ago, the company acquired the residential building at Max-Planck-Straße 30, along with the land, which at that time was not yet part of the company’s premises. The purchase laid the foundations for the expansion of the company premises and the subsequent relocation of the road behind the building, which was carried out in agreement with the town of Harsewinkel. Following the completion of the planning in 2012, the roadworks were finished in 2013. Since then, Max-Planck-Straße has run behind the former residential building, which has significantly improved the previously winding road layout. In 2014, a new weighbridge and an extension housing the weighbridge operator’s office were constructed in front of the former residential building, which at the time housed the offices of Reiling Logistik GmbH & Co. KG. Further investments followed in the subsequent years, including an expansion of the site in 2018 and the construction of additional warehouses in 2021. Last year, Reiling Logistik GmbH & Co. KG moved to a new site in Harsewinkel. Finally, in 2026, work began on the new lorry access road.
The Reiling Group has been operating from its current site in Marienfeld since 1968 and is now one of Europe’s leading recycling companies. The family-run business operates 21 sites in Germany and abroad and employs more than 650 people. With an annual volume of over one million tonnes, the company recycles hollow and flat glass, photovoltaic modules, wood and PET, amongst other materials, and has over 100 years of experience in the recycling industry.
